Chapter  – The President’s Chair

The auditorium at the United Nations building was a busy place.

Mrs Enkhe Ogilvie was sitting in the President’s chair, as she was acting in that role place for this session.

Enkhe opened extraordinary session of the United Nations General Assembly, and called on the only invited guest to start their presentation.

Dr Julie Davies wasn’t used to speaking to large groups of people. In fact she hated it.

But this was somewhat of an emergency, and unfortunately for her, she was the only NASA physicist free to fly to the UN to make this presentation.

“At 01:00 UTC this morning, there was an explosion on board the International Space Station. The structure is now split into two sections, with the Russian Orbital Segment breaking away from the rest of the ISS.

Each of the two sections has a fission reactor on board.

These are small nuclear reactors, each containing uranium-235.

Every country represented here is facing the threat of a Dirty Bomb exploding in the middle of one of its major cities…

…. and of course, there will be two of them.”

The auditorium suddenly became very frenzied.
